1.1.1.4. 명사의 소유격

명사의 소유격은 단어의 끝에 ‘s를 붙여서 표시하며, -s로 끝나는 경우는 s’ 로 사용한다.

다음과 같이 사용 될 수 있다.

• the man next door's mother (the mother of the man next door)
• the Queen of England's poodles (the poodles of the Queen of England)

 

종종 of 를 사용해서 소유를 표시 할 수 있지만, ‘s로 사용하는 것이 일반적이다.

the girlfriend of my brother

my brother’s girlfriend

 

이름에 대해서 소유격을 표시할 때는 ‘s를 붙이는 것이 일반적이다.

이름이 –s로 끝나는 경우는 그 뒤에 ‘s를 붙인다.

• This is Mary's car.
• Where is Ram's telephone?
• Who took Anthony's pen?
• I like Tara's hair.
• This is Charles's chair.

예외적으로 옛날 이름이거나 고전적인 이름인 경우는 ‘ 만 붙이는 경우도 있다.

• Who was Jesus' father?

일부 –s로 끝나지 않는 불규칙한 복수형의 경우는 ‘s를 붙여서 소유격을 표시한다.
